The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southeast Queensland for this afternoon, with the possibility of damaging winds, flash flooding and large hailstones.
The bureau warned that at 5pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Enoggera, Lake Samsonvale, Dayboro, Mount Mee, Archerfield and Nerang.
The storms were moving towards the east and forecast to affect Brisbane CBD, Logan City, Strathpine and Wamuran by 5.30pm, and Redcliffe, Caboolture, Brighton and Beachmere by 6pm.
Damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones were likely, the bureau warned.
Rainfall of 41mm in 15 minutes was recorded at 4.50pm at Mount Tamborine.
Emergency Management Queensland advised people to: Move cars under cover or away from trees. Secure loose outdoor items. Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. Avoid using the telephone. Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.
