MONSANTO is expecting about 20 per cent more Roundup in the marketplace after a new production facility was brought online late last week.
Despite the increase in production, Roundup marketing manager Curt Uebele did not say whether a price decrease would follow.
"We'll always be at a slight premium over generics," he noted.
Mr Uebele added that in some comparison testing Monsanto performed last year among glyphosate products, Roundup performed 10pc better than China-manufactured alternatives and could result in 40pc more yield.
Monsanto also announced a new product that would be available this year: MON 63410, a post-emergent herbicide designed to be applied over the top of soybeans, before weeds emerge.
Uebele said tests had shown good control of tough weeds, such as palmer amaranth and waterhemp, using MON 63410 followed by a glyphosate application.
The active ingredient in MON 63410 is the organic compound metolachlor. Though it's not new in the marketplace, Uebele said Monsanto's new, proprietary encapsulation process offered additional crop safety for broadcast applications.
