The Opposition is calling for the immediate suspension of a member of the Murray-Darling Basin Ministerial Council Community Advisory Committee, who is under investigation for rorting travel expenses.
Shadow Minister responsible for Scrutiny of Government David Davis claims former Goulburn Valley Water chairman Don Cummins "will not be reappointed to the Board of Goulburn Valley Water after withdrawing from consideration amid an investigation into his expense claims".
Members of the Community Advisory Committee are approved by the Murray-Darling Basin Ministerial Council, of which three Rudd Government minsters are members – Penny Wong, Peter Garrett and Tony Bourke.
"Kevin Rudd must demand that Federal authorities undertake a parallel investigation into Don Cummins' expenses at the Murray-Darling Basin Commission and ensure that the results are shared with the Victorian investigation," Mr Davis said.
"Kevin Rudd must insist on high standards and ensure that board members who claim inappropriate expenses have no role in deciding critical national water and environment policies."
Mr Davis acknowledged that Mr Cummins has offered to repay any expenses he may have double-claimed.
