ACCC delivers report on grocery prices

31 Jul, 2008 03:02 PM
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is expected to propose major reforms in its report on grocery prices in its report delivered to the federal government on Thursday.

The Australian Financial Review says these are likely to include the establishment of a Grocery Watch price monitoring scheme.

Other measures aimed at limiting the market power of Australia's major supermarket chains are likely to be included.

Consumer Affairs Minister Chris Bowen is expected to release the study next week.

They have these studies all the time, but nothing ever seems to be done about ever-increasing costs.

Why don't we have a plain old report on the produce at the farm gate and then the price you are paying through the major chain outlets.

This would be a perfect exercise on freight costs and just who is benefiting.

The general public has a right to information on just who is taking the mickey out of them.

Get everything out into the open and let the people be the judge [and jury if need be].
