THE latest update from the Bureau of Meteorology shows El Nino conditions in the Pacific have remained at typical levels in the past two weeks.
Weaker trade winds have kept sea temperatures warm, preventing the El Nino event from decaying and continuing above average levels of cloud east of the dateline. The SOI has also remained at El Nino levels, with an approximate 30-day value of -8.
Computer models suggest Pacific Ocean temperatures will cool steadily over the coming months, returning to neutral levels during autumn.
The Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is currently neutral and is forecast to remain so through autumn.
