FarmWorks chief looks east for growth

22 Feb, 2010 09:40 AM
THE new chief executive of Western Australian-based diversified agribusiness FarmWorks Australia will spearhead a national expansion of its services following the nine-year-old business's back-door listing.

David Connolly, a former Australian Agricultural Company chief operating officer, was named chief executive of FarmWorks on Friday after about 1500 shareholders in public internet access company ETT approved the agrigroup's acquisition, according to The Australian Financial Review.

Mr Connolly, who will be based in Queensland, said there was a good opportunity to grow the company, particularly on the eastern seaboard, as the group capitalised on increasing demand for agricultural products and services as the world's population expanded.

"The business doesn't do any livestock sales on the east coast or the Northern Territory," Mr Connolly said. "We will expand our merchandising, chemicals and livestock businesses on the east coast." FarmWorks will use the $1.2 million raised by ETT in December to fund its expansion.
