THE LAST few days have revealed just how much rain can fall within a slow-moving system, with parts of New South Wales and Queensland receiving their wettest rainfall in months.
In the 24 hours to 9am WeatherZone has recorded 21mm at Alpha, while Springsure received 22mm, Peakvale Station 41mm, Tambo 15mm, Condamine 17mm, Drillham 16mm, Goondiwindi 16mm and Milmerran 23mm.
Griffith, in the NSW Riverina, has scored 39 millimetres in the first three days of winter, almost the same amount recieved during the entire month of June last year. It is also the wettest month since December of last year.
Brewarrina, in the state's north, has so far recorded 51 millimetres, already 18 above the average total for June. This is now the wettest June in eight years. It is also double the total for June of last year.
The rainfall is only just easing up today, although moderate falls have continued for some parts, most notably the NSW western slopes and plains. Dubbo has collected 18 millimetres since 9am, their heaviest in two months.
Tomorrow, the rain will fall mainly over the ranges and on the east coast. The eastern inland will become sunny once again, before a cold front surges up on Sunday, bringing some more light falls.
