Grower groups split further on AWB vote

20/07/2008 7:37:00 PM
The Eastern Wheat Growers is the latest lobby group to come out in support of the proposed constitutional changes that have been put forward by AWB Ltd, which are aimed at dispensing with the company's dual-class share system.

A statement from the group said: "It is questionable, whether the unique AWB structure of A and B class shareholders was ever appropriate (even with a Single Desk).

"What is now very clear, is that such a structure is entirely inappropriate - and in fact, value destroying."

The AWB's current structure will increase the cost of AWB's capital in a competitive market, the group's statement says, and put it at an unfair advantage against its competitors.

"When you are competing against the likes of Cargill, you do not want to be doing so with one arm tied behind your back," it said.

The eastern growers group are a very small collection of graincorp cronies and lapdogs. As they declared at the senate wheat inquiry they have no formal membership, but it can be said their assumed membership can be counted on one hand.

To give them credability as a genuine farmer organisation is deceitful and misrepresentative. It's in their self serving interest to see AWB as a non-farmer owned organisation.

Who are the Eastern Wheat growers? Who is their spokesman and how many members do they have?

In whose self-serving interest is it for AWB to remain as it is then? Retaining a controlling interest in AWB serves nobody. It's just a remnant of the socialist past.

It is quite clear that Jock and his fellow travellers are not working in the best interests of growers. Their agenda is to keep AWB in grower control to further their own selfish agri-political ambitions. Jock has already made one failed attempt to run for the Board of AWB and may harbour illusions of running again to try and secure a coveted Board position. That he has none of the skills needed to be a director of a major corporation seems irrelevant to him and those who voted for him. That such a person can almost gain a position on the Board of AWB is as good as illustration as any as to why we need to reform the current AWB structure.

The Eastern growers group is just a tiny little Graincorp fan club, which is a fun concept. The Eastern growers group has no formal membership, which is even funnier. The Eastern growers group advising on AWB's internal affairs is really comical. The Eastern Growers group presenting themselves as a peak body commentator for wheat growers interests, is well, PRICELESS!!!

We all know that the Eastern Grower group would fit in the back seat of a taxi, that's where they hold their meetings. They are just another self interest group, just ask the majority of wheat growers what they think of them. The Senate wheat inquiry showed them up for what they are, individuals looking for Board positions that pay well to off set their incomes with no interest in wheat growers and the greater rural sector survivial.

David, whose self interest, well, export wheat producers, remember them.

By the way, Karl Marx and his enterage expired a long time ago, since then we have been subject to a never ending supply of ideologies with their promises of nirvana and delivery of disappointment. The latest being "economic rationalism".

Good grief! Talk about shooting the messenger. It does not matter whether the Eastern Wheat Growers have a formalised structure or not; there are many wheat growers that refuse to join the dinosaur state farmer organisations because they have a history of failing to lead. The GCA, the NSWFA and its other state members were supposed to be looking out for farmers interests but they were the leaders of the cheer squad supporting the corporate AWB from 2000 onwards. How many tens of millions of dollars have been syphoned off the pools over the years? How about the ocean freight racket Jock? AWB International was only ever a legal entity, totally subservient and dominated by AWB Ltd. How can the old guard defend a failed ideology with so much evidence to the contary?
