Ruralco builds agency stake

1/07/2008 5:15:00 PM
Ruralco Holdings has continued to build its agency business, buying a majority holding in BR and C, and new Alice Springs outfit, Territory Rural McPherson.

Ruralco has bought a 51pc stake in Swan Hill-based private agency Brady and Runciman Pty Ltd (BR and C).

While it already operates under the banner of CRT, Ruralco managing director John Maher said the new deal would give customers access to a range of new services through the Ruralco network.

Ruralco has also secured a majority stake of Territory Rural McPherson, which is due to start trading in the Northern Territory in mid July and will offer livestock agency, rural merchandise, insurance and real estate services.

"With our half-year net profit up 41pc compared to the same period last year and our continuing investment in quality rural assets it's clear that we are delivering on our commitment to develop the Ruralco business and position ourselves as one of Australia's leading agribusinesses," Mr Maher said.
