The Victorian Government's BushTender scheme will invest another $2.7 million into the north and south-west of the State, to pay for landholders to undertake environmental preservation work.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Gavin Jennings said the successful bids with BushTender have resulted in agreements with 90 landholders.
"The Brumby Government is taking action to protect Victoria's landscape and biodiversity and this action has become even more important because of the threat of climate change," Mr Jennings said.
"These agreements with Victorian landholders will result in more than 6000 hectares of native vegetation being restored on private land, improving the health of Victoria's ecosystems."
More than 10,000 hectares of native vegetation on private land has been managed and protected through the BushTender program.
The program encourages landholders to apply through a competitive tender process and nominate a price payable by government, in return for providing services to better protect and improve native vegetation on their own land.
"Successful landholders will undertake and report on a range of activities such as tackling weeds and pests, establishing stock-proof fencing, replanting native vegetation and conducting ecological burning," Mr Jennings said.
