Call to oppose Sartor’s compulsory acquisition

15/05/2008 11:03:00 AM
Residents of every local council in the State must call out to let Planning Minister Frank Sartor hear loud and clear that his proposed ‘compulsory acquisition’ powers are completely unacceptable to their local community.

Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries, said local residents could make a difference by writing or emailing Mr Sartor to tell him that they won’t cop their land being taken compulsorily and on-sold to developers.

"Minister Sartor and State Labor are already trying to cut down on community input to planning issues, through Labor’s draft planning Bill," Mr Humphries said.

"They have a track record of not listening to the community but on this compulsory acquisition issue it is critical they hear the message.

"Residents who have worked hard to get their home and provide for their families should not be subject to Minister Sartor’s whims.

"He is proposing that a Government agency or council could take residents’ homes and on-sell them to developers either for a profit or for some other deal."

Mr Humphries said the State Labor Government had shown itself through Wollongong Council dealings to be utterly untrustworthy.

"Right now if a developer wants to buy a residents’ home he has to pay a fair price or it’s no deal," he said.

Compulsory acquisition will allow developers who don’t want to pay a fair price to get a Government agency to compulsorily acquire the home and on-sell it to the developer.

"Residents united, can send a clear message to make Labor re-think its despicable proposed compulsory acquisition powers."

Where do our public servants get off!!

I can't believe it.

We all have to condemn this sort of behaviour by our elected 'public servants'.

Time to stop this kind of action from being taken by our State Government.

Who wants to be Prime Minister when you can be Premier or sit on a State bench.

I'm writing a letter straight away.

National Parks, Forestry Crown Land isn't that enough for you State Labor Parties??

I think it is.

Isn't what Sartor proposses with this legislation akin to what we are condeming Robert Mugabe and his government of doing to white farmers in Zimbabwe......

You are right Gonedrivin, Sartor is doing exactly what Robert Mugabe and his Government are doing with this legislation - IT MUST BE STOPPED!!!

There should be a referendum on this new Legislation so that the general public can have a say on the out come, or it will be like Daylight saving where they will just take a few more weeks to fit in to the Olympic Games time table and we still have it.

This shows that you can't just leave it to the government.

Australians still don't get it.

High immigration has been planned and they will need somewhere to live.

A refugee in the Sudan cannot afford to drink Coca-cola, but a Sudanese family supported in Australia with the tax from fuel, ripped from the heart of our young Australian families, can.

Why else would Dick Pratt donate to both sides of politics to achieve his vision of 50 million people by 2050.

Editor's note: That seems like a long bow to draw.

Well Well Well, the arrogance of the Sheep (election Time Only)....

It worked in Queensland with the so called amalgamation of councils, why would'n it work in NSW???

To add insult to injury we keep on reelecting them everywhere.......

The best socio/communist country I have ever lived in!!!!!!!!!!!!!
