Labor has secret tax agenda: Hockey

Labor has secret tax agenda: Hockey

05 Mar, 2010 06:59 AM
For Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, yesterday was meant to be a public relations blitz on health reform, but the political debate became snagged on the whereabouts of the Henry tax review.

Health Minister Nicola Roxon started the tax debate early, failing to rule out future tax increases to pay for rising health costs.

Across town, Mr Rudd was asked when he would produce the Henry review and give a clearer picture of the government's tax plans.

Mr Rudd would not be pinned down, fuelling further speculation that Treasury head Ken Henry's recommendations might be shelved until after the federal election.

Treasurer Wayne Swan last night also played down expectations that the report would be released soon.

''The timing of the release of the tax review has not yet been finalised, but as the Prime Minister has said, it is important to allow for a thorough public discussion of the historic health reforms just announced by the government,'' a spokesman said.

It has become clear that the government does not have a clear strategy for introducing the tax reform debate. Its back-to-basics message after the Peter Garrett insulation drubbing has switched the focus to health and education.

The dead-bat response on tax from Labor's senior players yesterday left the Opposition an open window.

''Nicola Roxon has belled the cat by revealing that the Rudd government has a secret agenda to increase taxes,'' shadow treasurer Joe Hockey told reporters.

''On the same day, Kevin Rudd says he is too busy to release the comprehensive review of taxation reform. This government has a secret agenda on tax.''

This bloke has as much credibility as a flying pig, so why should we take any notice of what he's got to say!

Tigerdicky, let's not talk too much about credibility. You're like the Brendan Fevola of Farmonline.

After the brief and heady period of receiving the loan and spending money faster than you earn it. Comes the long grinding years of earning more money than you spend (on yourself) while you pay back the loan and interest.

O the enlightened one, keep of the weed mate then you might actually come out with something original!

''Nicola Roxon has belled the cat by revealing that the Rudd government has a secret agenda to increase taxes,'' said Joe hockey a few days ago. I wonder how Sloppy Joe feels now that his great leader has dumped a parental leave scheme on him, a scheme which makes Joe look foolish and Boofhead Bigears a liar and a shallow hypocrite, as cynical as Tricky Dicky Nixon was. The big question is: how long will Abbott last, or will his party allow him to lead them to a bigger electoral disaster than Latham lead his party?

There is no escaping the fact that public debt is funded by private capital. There is no escaping the fact that all taxation is ultimately funded by private production. Even before the GFC struck the Rudd government made it clear to anybody who can see that it intended to go on a spending spree and blame Howard for the tearaway inflation that this caused. Why? Because, having studied Marx, they believe that there should be no private control over industry. The huge debt that is being run up at a billion dollars a week by this government must be repaid by increasing taxation to match. What these bookworm Marxists refuse to acknowledge is that the burden of this increased taxation can and will cripple Australian industry's capacity to produce. We have already seen our economy driven into an excessive dependence on extractive industries selling to just one market. Rudd's insulation program and schools program have shown in graphic terms that the command economy just does not work. Yet now he wants to extend his command economy to health. Do you remember our deputy prime minister's declaration:"No childcare centre can close without giving 30 days' notice". The command economist.
