THE ideal setting of the Black family’s Alroy property at Brookstead, Qld, acted as the perfect backdrop for a harvest management and residue field day organised by the Conservation Farmers organisation.
Executive officer Michael Burgis maintains it is vitally important to showcase new technology.
"The idea here is to get people to see it, feel it, touch it – that's the only way they can work out whether it fits their operation," he said.
"And with labour costs going up, producers must keep abreast of the latest technology on offer."
The eye-catching performance of Oztec Manufacturing's 30t Tramliner chaser bin, which sees its Longreach model equipped with an extendable grain loading platform, attracted great attention on the day.
Company spokesman Glen Picone detailed how the design permitted the loading platform to swing sideways under hydraulic power to neatly catch grain being discharged from headers operating on 12m tramline systems.
The extra 3.5m overhang it provides means that chaser bin gear need not move out of the tram-tracks they are working on when drawing level with a header's unloading auger.
Up until now header discharge augers stopped short of bridging the gap at the centre of a 12m system, requiring chaser bin/tractor combinations to step outside the property's tram tracks.
Mr Picone says the 2m wide conveyor belt runs at the necessary speed to prevent grain from bouncing off it as it is whisked into the chaser bin’s hopper.
In action, and making use of GPS coordinates, all the header driver has to do is adjust his working speed to dovetail with the chaser bin, ready to begin transferring crop on-the-move with virtually no spillage.
Meanwhile, DOM representatives Jason Orr and Luke Rowney told visitors about the awesome capacity of the Balzer range of field bins with this Trident model able to accommodate 50t of grain when fitted with extension boards.
The machine's 24in diameter unloading auger has a discharge rate of about 25t/minute with a tractor cab-mounted joy stick controller overseeing a range of tasks needed to direct grain into trucks at near-breathtaking rates.
Equipped with steerable front and rear axles, the design takes load stresses off the drawbar, plus enhances manoeuvrability when turning.
