GLA approves first canola licences for 2008-09 season

02 Jun, 2008 01:57 PM
WA's Grain Licensing Authority chairman Wayne Obst has announced the approval of two special export licences, one for 45,000 tonnes of canola to the Sub-continent and one for 40,000t of canola to the Middle East.

These are the first canola licences to be granted for the 2008-09 season.

Mr Obst said the total tonnage applied for was not granted, as the GLA believed it was too early in the season to grant large quantities of WA's canola crop in only two licences.

"It is business as normal for the GLA, and we expect to receive more special export licence applications in the coming months," he said.

This first round of licence approvals brings the total for canola to 85,000t for the season.

The GLA has already granted 220,000t of barley under multi-season licences which were originally applied for up to three years ago.
