Most areas in the northern and central Wheatbelt recorded falls up to 20mm this week and there were reports that one farmer north of Geraldton copped a thunderstorm that delivered 72mm.

The rain comes on the back of three years of drought in some regions and, added to some substantial summer falls, has created a moisture-filled soil profile.

This latest rain has prompted widespread seeding programs, with canola and lupins going in first.

There is more rain forecast in the next week which, if it eventuates, would make it a near perfect start dream for this area of the State.

While farmers in the north are rejoicing, the Great Southern is still waiting.

Some producers in this area have commenced seeding, but others are still waiting for another 15-20mm to get underway.
