Heifers to $690 at Naracoorte

02 Feb, 2009 03:17 PM
Sales of grown and weaner heifers on Friday made to $690 a head and averaged 160c/kg liveweight at Naracoorte SA.

In a sale reduced by more than a third, due to extreme heat, feeder and butcher buyers mixed it with South-East of SA graziers to compete for an excellent yarding of well-grown and well-bred young, joined females that once again offered plenty of weight and condition.

Heavy heifers mostly made $570 to $630, with an isolated pen of Simmental Red Angus-cross selling to a market top of $690.

These sales were mostly the equivalent of 150-155-c/kg liveweight.

Pens weighing 280-350kg made $460- $560.

Lighter spring-drop heifers made $305- $430.
