A good shower of rain across Queensland's Maranoa region brought local cattle buyers out in force at Roma’s store sale yesterday.
One restocker that was looking for cattle was Ken Hiscock, Holly Downs, Augthella.
Mr Hiscock has several properties in south-west Queensland and hoped to purchase cattle to restock two properties, Ingeberry and Beliga, at Quilpie.
"We received 30mm of rain over the weekend at our Quilpie properties and 15mm at our property at Wandoan," he said.
The Roma Store Market Index was up 3.1 points to 106.7 points this week.
Weaner steers were in demand and sold to 225c/kg.
Sterling Buntine, Allambie, Blackall offloaded a large line of 144 Angus and Santa steers. The best of his steers topped the sale at 190c for 487kg to return $927/head.
Overall, heavy steers averaged 185c, and feeders steers returned a top of 199c.
Heavier weaners averaged 192c and lighter types made 211c.
Meanwhile, Warren Dyer, Rosclare, Tambo topped the heifers section. The line of Brahman-cross heifers, weighting 351kg, sold to 175c to make $615.
With wet conditions expected to continue this week cattle numbers should remain limited, according to agents, but store cattle prices may remain buoyant due to the improved seasonal conditions.
