THE Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) is embarking on its biggest strategic overhaul in its 186-year history and already the cards are falling in its favour.
An outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Japan has wreaked havoc on the country's cattle industry, with exports of its prized wagyu beef banned as it moves to contain the outbreak.
AACo, Australia's biggest wagyu producer, will be a beneficiary and has already fielded calls from US customers looking to fill Japan's production void, according to The Australian Financial Review.
Known for its marbling qualities that produce tender cuts, wagyu can retail for more than $100 a kilogram.
AAco managing director David Farley said wagyu prices had jumped 18 per cent in the past week.
