Following the recent upsurge in heavy lamb prices across all states, processor demand has weakened over the past week, according to Meat and Livestock Australia.
MLA reports that lamb prices have slipped in all states, although Victoria has been least affected.
A combination of the higher Australian dollar and cooler conditions impacting on quality has resulted in weaker demand.
Subsequently, the national heavy lamb indicator fell 22¢c/kg from last week, to finish Thursday at 455¢/kg (carcase weight).
The largest reduction in price was in South Australia, where the state indicator price was 48¢/kg lower than last week, at 429¢/kg.
MLA says NSW also experienced a large price reduction, while comparatively Victoria was only 5¢/kg cheaper.
Prices in Victoria continue to be the highest, with Bendigo registering the dearest average price of 500¢/kg, while the cheapest average price was 386¢/kg at Midland in WA.
Prices are, however, on par with a month ago and remain 109¢/kg above the same time last year.
