Deere announces layoffs at Harvester Works

14 Sep, 2009 05:00 AM
DEERE & Company said that 367 manufacturing employees of the John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Illinois will be placed on indefinite layoff later this month due to reduced market demand for the factory's products.

Employees were informed September 10 of the layoff, which is effective on Sept. 21.

Consistent with earlier projections, most of the remaining manufacturing employees at Harvester Works also will start four weeks of inventory adjustment shutdown and two weeks of vacation shutdown on Sept. 21.

The John Deere Harvester Works manufactures combines and front-end equipment for harvesting.

Deere said the layoffs would affect production workers with the least seniority.
