Deere confirms engine warranty for biofuels

21 May, 2008 02:16 PM
Big machinery companies like John Deere continue to invest in green energy technology, claiming “it’s the right thing to do” to use biofuels in its diesel engines - both from environmental and long-term economic standpoints.

Just recently it sought to clarify the issue of warranty with respect to higher biodiesel blends.

A company statement says that while 5pc blends (B5) are preferred, biodiesel concentrations up to a 20pc blend (B20) in petroleum diesel fuel can be used in John Deere engines through Tier 3/Stage 3A specification models, including all non-emissions-certified engines.

"We still get questions about higher biodiesel blends and warranty, but our position on warranty for customers that use B20 has not changed," Deere engine specialist Grant Suhre said.

Deere says while the company prefers the use of B5 biodiesel blends, it knows that when high quality B20 blends are available, they work well in its engines.
