EXPERTISE from a Swiss-based engine company will enhance noted US off-road vehicle specialist Polaris's technology credentials and broaden its geographic reach.
The acquisition of Swissauto Powersports by Polaris will further strengthen its global engine and vehicle design capability, which includes sourcing KTM engines for its Outlaw ATV (pictured), as it moves to boost the company’s European presence.
“Swissauto has industry leading power-train design and development capabilities and a strong understanding of turbo-charging and high-performance engines,” Polaris chief executive officer, Scott Wine said.
Polaris Australia & NZ managing director Peter Alexander said the company's "home and heart" of our engineering and manufacturing would remain in the USA, the move "further proves our intentions to grow internationally".
Having acquired the power sports portion of Swissauto in Burgdorf, Polaris says it will continue to operate in the current Swissauto facility.
The automotive division of Swissauto was not involved in this acquisition and will continue to operate autonomously.
Polaris, which designs, engineers, manufactures and markets off-road vehicles, including all-terrain vehicles and the Polaris Ranger, snowmobiles and Victory Motorcycles, posted annual 2009 sales of US$1.6billion.
