Spotlight falls on ATV safety

28 May, 2008 10:24 AM
The manager of the Victorian Farm Safety Centre, Brett Westblade, today, Wednesday, launched the organisation’s "A Handbook for Workplaces: All Terrain Vehicles on Farms" at the CWA conference in Melbourne.

He says the Victorian Farm Safety Centre - University of Ballarat, put the document together with the assistance of an Industry Reference Group.

Now that the handbook is out, Brett says a pilot training course will be delivered in a number of locations - to evaluate the best mode of delivery with respect to providing training for experienced farmers.

Importantly, he says he also would like to develop three training videos around tractors but, at present, lacks funding.

Sounds like a worthy cause in the light of the fact about 10 people are killed on farms each year when riding ATVs.
