Harvest record-breakers heading to Australia

23 Mar, 2010 12:15 PM
THE launch of the biggest combine harvester ever to be released in Australia injected a mood of excitement at the unveiling of New Holland’s hungry-looking CR9090 machine.

The company’s dealer principals got their first glimpse of the new harvest heavyweight at a recent national conference in Sydney.

The newcomer is certain to garner interest since the CR9090 currently holds the Guinness World Record for the most grain harvested.

During September 2008 in the United Kingdom, the CR9090 harvested 551.61 tonnes of wheat over an eight-hour period. Spot work rate was as high as 100tph, pared back to an average 68.95tph.

Made in New Holland’s Zedelgem plant in Belgium, the CR9000 uses the same 13L Iveco Cursor engine and its turbo compound technology that powers the company’st T9060 tractor.

The CR9090 Elevation boasts some 400kW (544hp) at rated engine speed with a power boost to 435kW (591hp) which is 45kW (61hp) more than its current CR9080.

Turbo compound technology is said to offer greater engine efficiency, with a five percent fuel saving when compared to a similar horsepower standard engine.

When combined with the CR9090 Elevation’s larger 1160L fuel tank, the claim is the combine can work hard all day without stopping.

The technology is fully compliant with 100 per cent biodiesel usage, and with this alternative fuel becoming very competitively priced, it can result in significant savings for the owner.

The turbo compound system uses a second turbine, downstream of the first, to recover energy from the engine exhaust gases that would otherwise be lost or wasted.

To match the cooling requirements of the engine, the CR9090 Elevation is fitted with 32 percent greater cooling capacity compared to the CR9080, kept clean by new dual-rotary air screens.

Drivelines are also up-rated to handle the additional power and torque.

The CR9090 will also feature next generation rotary and cleaning technology with the release of features to provide maximum output and grain quality.

The CR9000 range uses the company's unique Twin Rotor system to thresh and separate the crop.

The combine’s latest Opti-Clean system offers increased sieve throwing strokes and steeper throwing angles, plus claims to have the largest cleaning area on the market at 6.5 square metres.

With a grain tank capacity of 12,500L, the CR9090 Elevation comes with a powerful new Opti-Spread system mounted behind the straw chopper to evenly distribute chopped straw across the full header width.

Potential users of the CR9090 Elevation should appreciate the working environment of the combine’s spacious cab which comes with 5.8sq m of glass to provides unobstructed views to its front.

Biggest?????? Please report accurately. Lexion 600 has been here for a couple of years. The record is only a little better than what the Lexion's little brother, the 580, set in the UK.

With Grain prices the way they are, who's going to able to afford these machines. And now the PPC want further deregulation what a bloody joke.

Get out now, Pedro, before you go broke. There's plenty who can afford to buy these machines and they'd also like to buy your farm.
