Red rig makes mark

31/08/2008 5:51:00 PM
This Kenworth T950 truck and trailer has caught the eye of both rural people and townsfolk when criss-crossing northern NSW and Queensland as part of the Massey-on-the-Move roadshow.

While the sparkling new tractors it's been carrying have been the stars of the event, just as many people have noticed the beautifully presented rig owned by Steve Judd, Glengallan Station, Warwick.

Part of Massey Ferguson’s 50th anniversary celebration, he was delighted to be involved in transporting AGCO’s MF 5445, MF 6455 and MF 7495 models from site to site.

Of course, it helps to be equally passionate about the famous marque with the Judd family’s tractor fleet encompassing MF 185, MF 4245, MF 5455, MF 6290, MF 7465 and MF 8450 models.

As well, there’s a TE20, plus earlier MF 135 and MF 148 tractors.

There’s undeniably a little of the showman in Stuart who, when approached to haul AGCO’s road show, thought how he could best enhance the spectacle.

"I’ve always believed you should be 100pc committed to anything in life - not just 5pc and later on wishing you’d have put in the other 95pc," he said.

"You only get one chance at a first impression."

And the public’s response to his initiative has been well worth the effort.

"When I pulled up anywhere along the road – especially in North Queensland, there were people taking pictures – both of the truck and its colour-matched tractors," Stuart said.

Interestingly, the mighty two-year-old Kenworth T950 was purchased secondhand.

With the trailer already part of Glengallan Station’s machinery inventory, it seemed logical to match it with the prime mover.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Dubbed the 'Mechanised Swaggie' in honour of the Slim Dusty song, Stuart can empathise with the former country music icon who once earned a living travelling Australia’s highways.

It's blokes like Stuart Judd and others driving heavy vehicles that are an asset to the trucking industry. They're not out to harass or endanger motorists on the highway. They're doing what they love and, given the chance, Stuart would tell you where the crook ones should end up.

Thank you Stuart Judd. More stories like this.
