AN ITALIAN family’s pivotal migration decision to head for Australia in 1926 is faithfully recorded in a just-released book by the founder of Silvan Australia.
Michael Tricarico’s “The Journey Not the Destination” will appeal to anybody interested in Australia’s rich history of farm mechanisation development.
Searching for a better life in Australia saw Michael’s father Giuseppe eventually settle at Silvan in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.
The rest, as they say, is history with Michael recognising the importance of the sprayer on farms of the future when the company commenced distributing sprayers and pumps on behalf of the Queensland manufacturer Marino Products in the early 1960s.
Today the Silvan group employs more than 200 people. Its national head office is located at a new manufacturing and distribution complex in Dandenong South and it has state branches in WA and Queensland, a New Zealand office in Morrinsville south of Auckland and an Australia-wide network of dealers and distributors.
People with an interest in Italian family history, business development and an appreciation of hard work will be entertained and informed by this heart-warming story and excellent piece of social history.
