AWGA backs AWI on mulesing backdown

05 Aug, 2009 02:23 PM
The Australian Wool Growers Association has welcomed Australian Wool Innovation's new animal health and welfare flystrike prevention policy, which concedes that the 2010 deadline for phasing out mulesing will not be met.

AWGA chairman Martin Oppenheimer says woolgrowers are pleased with the direction of the new board at AWI.

The recent endorsement by major farming groups and the Federal Minister for Agriculture was significant, he said.

"At last we have leadership at AWI that is prepared to tell woolgrowers the truth about research programs," Mr Oppenheimer said. "They must tell it as it is.

"To be effective as a research and marketing company, AWI must have integrity and honesty in all it does.

"Integrity in research is essential and honesty in marketing is also essential for success."

AWGA has previously been critical of promises made to woolgrowers, wool customers and the community of potential technologies, still in development.

"Genetic selection appears to be the long term, natural solution," Mr Oppenheimer said.

Excellent point you have made Martin. For too long I have been critical of the current AWI board and AWGA, but I must concede they have got it right to come forward as a united front with honesty and integrity on this issue. I for too long have written lies and pushed the agenda of WoolProducers Australia and my personal friend Don Hamblin. Martin, I must say you're rams at Hamilton Sheepvention were a credit to the industry. It was amazing to see such high standard set by the studs that participated. Credit is truly deserved to these men and women. The high clearance levels of rams to dedicated wool producers truly proves the faith producers have in the current AWI board and the wool industry as a whole.

Sad day Martin when you and your cronies have to pretend to be me. But as they say imitation is the sincerest... 1. Of course AWGA backs the AWI position. AWGA controls the AWI position. 2. AWGA speaking of integrity and honesty. Is this the same AWGA that signed an agreement with PETA, trying to push its own vested interests above the interests of normal woolgrowers? 3. AWI and honesty in research. If they had integrity, AWI would let other researchers investigate the mulesing alternatives that they killed off early at SARDI. Why won't they do that Martin? 4. Leadership at AWI. Is it leadership to expose the entire Australian woolgrowing industry to unnecessary campaigns by animal extremists? Is it leadership to pander to woolgrower populism, just to get elected to AWI and then to control the moneypot? 5. Clearance rates for rams... You are getting desperate aren't you? Will this be the way AWI judges its international marketing success - by how many rams Wally sells? Martin, stop being Wally's poodle. Why not focus on the 10 months of inaction at AWI Martin? No marketing. No Woolmark program. No research. 10 crucial months wasted by your mates.

Okay - Who's hijacked the 'Sir George' tagline? That's very naughty!

Don, just on point 4, is this 'Money Pot' the same money pot that WoolProducers Australia grew fat on before the current board weaned them to fend for themselves. But still I love the new campaign you wanted me to push "WOOLPOLL...Vote 0---its the same amount of funding WPA receives"

I agree, Martin. Opportunity has definitely knocked. The new board's doing a sterling job marketing trisolfen.

We should note also its success in keeping the wool price low, applying the genetics R&D handbrake and keeping a lid on the levy for fell mongered sheep.

Best of all worlds really. I wonder what happened to the sensational Suki's brand marketing team effort in the UK?

To find out who (the real) Sir George is, look up who has been asking all the questions at the AWI AGM's, which are available online.

Not Don. Not part of WoolProducers. Don't ask questions at AWI meetings. Rather than trying to guess who I am, why dont you focus your attention on the failed AWGA/AWI team?

No wool marketing at all in 2009. No wool research at all in 2009 - creating havoc with Australian wool's name internationally.

Board riddled with vested interests. It's all going very well, isnt it, Martin? When's your next trip overseas? All they want to do in 2009 is influence Woolpoll and keep control of the money.

Always keep that in mnd when you read their spin in the months to come.

It's great to have you here, Sir George. You still actually have passion for the wool industry, but at your age you only have a few more articles to go before retirement day.

PS: We can get at least 100 signatures for your nomination for the AWI board! Have a go...and it's better $s than what you are doing now, working for a semi-multinational.

The new board are also responsible for bringing in the reserve price scheme then dismantling it, they were also responsible for the breakup of the Soviet Union and the price collapse that followed and were also responsible for the retail sector pricing themselves out of wool in favour of synthetics they are also responsible for 80% of the cost of production of wool being tied up in the retail sector, inviting PETA to Australia for a party, the drought, the floods and also the sinking of the Titanic and all before they were even elected to the board. Arguments in smoke and mirrors.

I had thought that there would be website protection against a third party using another's screen name unless using the first name's computer. At least it brought a good laugh.
