Two more retailers join mulesing boycott

07 May, 2008 02:48 PM
PETA claims two new Swedish retailers have joined the boycott against mulesed wool this week.

AB Lindex and RND Retail and Brands have both joined the boycott of mulesed wool, combined the two have almost 800 stores across 12 countries.

The wool industry was quick to defend its position.

Taskforce head Norm Blackman who has recently returned from meeting dozens of retailers in the United States and Europe, said, “We have had very positive meetings and many retailers are confident they have the support and facts to defend themselves against these attacks.

"They understand the clips are part of an interim solution to mulesing.

"But we want to see a bare breech breeding strategy adopted as soon as possible."

On a brighter note for the industry, PETA has been impressed with the development of an intradermal alternative to surgical mulesing by Cobbett Technologies.

Private researchers have been injecting a known varicose vein treatment into the breech area by air pressure, killing a layer of skin that heals and stretches the area without hair.

Peta might be impressed by the intradermal injection, but has that idea been shelved because of the drug involved?

Nice story Marius but now RNB state they "have not been persuaded by any animal rights group to boycott Australian wool". http://www.rnb.se/en/RNB/Investor-Relations/IR-news/

"We have been placing more stringent demands, whereby a guarantee that the wool comes from sheep that have not undergone traditional mulesing without pain relief is required before we continue to purchase Australian wool." http://www.rnb.se/en/RNB/Our-responsibility/Q--A/
