The Australian wool market finished 0.9pc lower, on average, at sales in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle this week in the last sale before the mid-year break, according to the Australian Wool Industries Secretariat.
It reports that the AWEX eastern market indicator fell by 10¢/kg (-1.1pc) to end the week at 864¢/kg (clean).
Region by region the changes were:
* a fall of 10¢c/kg (-1.1pc) in the north, where the indicator closed at 902c/kg;
* a loss of 8¢/kg (-1.0pc) in the south, where the regional indicator finished at 832¢/kg; and
* the western indicator fell by 5¢/kg (-0.6pc) to finish the week at 840¢/kg.
AWIS reports that there were 45,258 bales were on offer, compared to 45,544 bales last week, of which 11.2pc were passed in.
The US exchange rate closed the week at US95.15¢, down US1.09¢ (-1.1pc) from the previous Thursday.
AWIS says the market closed for the break on a softer note, with an easing across all Merino micron ranges and strong support confined to the very good wools.
