$163,000 flood recovery funding for South Gippsland

14 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
DEPUTY Premier and Member for Gippsland South, Peter Ryan announced more than $160,000 in funding to help repair flood-damaged infrastructure in the South Gippsland shire.

Mr Ryan said $163,000 from the Flood Recovery Community Infrastructure Fund would be provided to the South Gippsland Shire Council for repairs to community infrastructure at Fish Creek, Poowong and Mossvale Park.

"The 2010-11 floods caused widespread damage across South Gippsland, severely damaging community infrastructure such as sporting facilities, parks and reserves," Mr Ryan said.

"I am very pleased that funding is now available to support the South Gippsland Shire Council as it continues to carry out repairs across the region.

"Funding of $60,000 will support the repair of damaged tennis and netball courts at the Fish Creek Recreation Reserve.

"The popular Mossvale Park, which is home to a number of annual music festivals and events, will be re-established with $80,000 for major restoration works.

"Finally, a grant of $23,000 will support the Poowong Recreation resurfacing and improvement works project which will ensure the grounds are ready ahead of the 2012 football season."

Mr Ryan said the $30 million Flood Recovery Community Infrastructure Fund was supporting communities across Victoria still trying to recover from the destructive 2010-11 floods.

"A huge amount of progress has been made with extensive repair works completed across the state but we know the work ahead is significant," Mr Ryan said.

"With ongoing assistance from the Commonwealth, and in partnership with local government and community organisations, we are repairing the damage and in the process creating a more resilient Victoria."
