There is something about men and their machinery, the enchantment of piston rods beating their tune, and the smell of fumes filling the nostrils.
Take a step back in time combine it with the fruits of their labor and it’s a sure recipe for a contented man. And taking some time out to go back to an era where man and his machinary dominated is the menu of the day at a gathering of tractors, strippers, harvesters and headers at Quambatook on Saturday January 24.
This year’s project of the Quambatook Heritage Working Machinery Association Inc, a well preserved 1926 McKay auto header, will feature in the events.
It was recently purchased at an auction in Murtoa in May 2008 and had not been out of the shed for 30 years.
The Fordson petrol/kero engine has been rebuilt, the straw walker repaired and the rear curtain replaced.
The Quambatook Heritage Working Machinery Association Inc (QHWMA) was founded in 2005 to collect, preserve and restore farming machinery that was used in the Mallee and Wimmera.
The public and other vintage machinery owners are keenly invited to the Vintage Tractor Pull and Harvest Working Day event.
There has been no tractors or headers manufactured in Australia since the 1980’s so their collection is a legacy to the Australian Manufacturers.
The event is held at the Quambatook Tractor pull complex with the gates opening at 10am. Further information contact: Club President Maurie Bennett on 03 5457 3222, or the Secretary, Lyn Bish on 0428 321 650.
