A wet month for Tasmania

20 Jul, 2009 11:16 AM
Parts of Tasmania have seen their wettest month in years, with the highest amounts falling over the northwest.

With constant fronts and strong winds passing over the region more than half of the days in July have seen rain over the northwest.

Sheffield has already received its highest monthly rainfall in four years with 179mm, they had their heaviest 24 hour rainfall in nine years with 95mm on July 12th.

Strahan is just shy of its average monthly rainfall of 168mm, receiving 161mm so far. Similar in Launceston, which has received 71mm, 6mm short of the monthly average of 77m.

Looking ahead, in the next few days a series of fronts will pass over the region bringing more rain.

Areas in western Tasmania could see up to 60mm of rain in the next four days and in the northwest falls could be as high as 50mm.
