Callawadda Merino ewes to $126

23 Oct, 2009 06:57 AM
Wimmera-district buyers got their first taste of store sheep values on home turf at the Callawadda breeders spring sale Thursday.

In an offering of 5000 head, '08-drop Studdall-blood Merino ewes, July-shorn, made to a top of $126 a head, with several other sales in the same age group bid into the $115 to $124 price bracket.

While plenty of attention focused on the breeding ewe lines, the surprise package of the day was a season-best price so far of $91 paid for one-year-old Merino wethers, with all of the wether yarding exceeding a price of $81.
