University of Melbourne Bachelor of Agriculture student Laura Tayler has won the 2008 Victorian Agricultural Shows Rural Ambassador Award – conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria Limited and Victorian Agricultural Shows Limited.
Laura, 26, has demonstrated a strong belief in the future of agriculture and regional and rural Australia.
This belief combined with her outstanding voluntary work in the community helped Laura to win the award.
Local community involvement has been a priority for Laura from an early age through sporting clubs including netball, rowing and tennis and as vice president of Beaufort Agricultural Society and Secretary of Ballarat Agricultural and Pastoral Society Youth Committee.
"Involvement in these organisations allows me the opportunity to give something back and help ensure that communities stay alive and sustainable," she said.
Laura is currently employed locally as an agronomist with Western AG Supplies where she provides advice and services for a broad range of agricultural enterprises.
"I absolutely love my job, it gives me an opportunity to meet and mix with people every day; each day is different, challenging and exciting."
