Parts of SA lifted between 11 and 13 degrees above their October average, as did much of central and western parts of Victoria.

Many places have seen their warmest day in around six months.

- Adelaide soared to 34 degrees, their highest since April.

- Melbourne struck 31, eleven above average, as storm clouds loomed, the warmest in six months.

- Portland, Vic, hit 30 degrees, 13 above average, almost double yesterday's maximum and three times the minimum.

The heat, drawn from the interior, on a conveyor belt of northerly winds should hang around for the weekend too.

Adelaide and parts of SA, will see temperatures rocket as the weekend progresses.

Should Adelaide hit the current forecast of 36 degrees on Sunday, it will be a three year high for October.

For beach goers in Melbourne, Saturday could be the best day with the mercury set for around 28 degrees.

A weak cool change will pass through Saturday night though, making it much cooler on the coast.

A little way inland however, temperatures should remain well above average, possibly even reaching the low 30s.
