Southeast rainfall blows past average

28 Sep, 2009 10:18 AM
It has been a very wet month for parts of south-east Australia, with many areas easily exceeding their September average.

According to figures on FarmOnline WeatherZone, Victorian rainfalls continue to build today as a deep low pushes away from the state.

After this past week Melbourne sits 5mm above the September average of 58mm.

That make it the first time they have gone above the monthly average this year.

Mt Baw Baw saw close to 50cm of snow over the weekend, bringing their monthly average precipitation well above average.

So far, they have seen 296mm compared to their long term average of 119mm.

It will take just one more millimetre to make it their wettest month since records began 12 years ago.

Tasmania has also been battered by wind and rain over the last week, adding to an already wet month.

Most areas in the east are well above average, reaching as high as 150mm above normal.

Hobart has seen 123mm so far in September, bringing them 70mm past the average and their wettest month in six years.

Mt Wellington has seen 203mm so far, 139mm above average and their wettest month in five years and in 48 years of records for September.
