Strong demand for grown steers at Ballarat, Vic

23/06/2008 4:17:00 PM
The improved returns for recent bullock markets saw strong demand continued for grown steers at the Ballarat monthly store cattle where 3420 head penned on Friday.

In a penning of 166 yards of steers, several buyers from South Gippsland competed and engaged in a trading rate of 180-200c/kg for the majority of the grown steer yarding, which realised prices between $735 and $870/head.

The younger and lighter steer lines, which were expected to average above the 200c/kg mark, met a more subdued inquiry with the season across Victoria still remaining extremely tight.
