OVER the weekend a cold blast of air is set to engulf the southeast, with the prospect of even some snow.
A low pressure system, currently languishing in the deep Southern Ocean is due to bulldoze into Australia later on Saturday and into Sunday.
The low will drag some very cold air with it. Sat on a conveyor of strong winds the air could reach us before warmer seas manage to heat it up.
The real kick is expected during Sunday as the low skirts south into the Tasman Sea and fires southerlies at Tasmania and Victoria. Tasmania, will take the brunt of the weather with maximums struggling in Strahan to the mid teens. With potential for gale force winds it will feel much colder, especially in southern parts of the island and over the Highlands.
As a front and trough move through and with the cloud and potential rainfall, it will feel a little chilly in Victoria too. This will be especially true for eastern and coastal parts of the state, which will be exposed to the southwesterly winds.
There could even be a few flakes of snow, mainly over the higher peaks in Tasmania. The best chance will be over Sunday night, although it is likely to be wet snow at best and not settle.
