Sunbury named top water-wise town

12 Mar, 2010 06:28 AM
Sunbury has come in as Victoria's most water-wise town.

New statewide water statistics for 2009 show Sunbury/Macedon residents used 145 litres of water, per person, per day - well under Melbourne's personal water target of 155 litres.

Swan Hill households used the most water - 412 litres per day.

But - between 2008 and 2009, as regional areas and towns have come off water restrictions, household water usage rose in 17 of 24 regional or outer urban areas, fell in six areas and remained the same in one, Bacchus Marsh.

Melbourne's personal water use dropped from 162 to 154 litres over the same period.

There is no personal water target for country towns and areas.
