Weaner steers maintained their pace at Wodonga today with 300-360-kilogram steers generally returning between 180 and 185 cents a kilogram and pushing up to 195c on occasion.
Stock & Land market analyst Murray Arnel, who as at Wodonga for the full three days of selling this week, said prices were just as strong for the top-end of Friday’s yarding of 4670 head as the previous two days.
“And that’s a hell of a result for 12,000 cattle,” he said.
Mr Arnel said light cattle held the gains achieved at Thursday’s market and probably increased further.
Prices topped at $670 for a pen of Angus steers, 383kg, offered by the Adams family, Mill Park, Staghorn Flat.
They were snapped up by Gerard Ryan, buying on account of Glen Innes, NSW, agency Colin Say and Co. Mr Ryan secured another 40 of the family’s steers for $660.
He later added to the order with the Angus steer draft of the Evans family, Tryo, Walwa, paying $645 for a pen of 60, 375kg, and buying another pen of 37 of the same for $660.
Northern orders remained strong, with as much as half of the yarding set to head north.
Mr Arnel said orders from Glen Innes, Tamworth and Walcha in northern NSW took the lead cattle with the strong market cutting some buyers from Queensland out of the bidding.
