TEMPERATURES are peaking on the campaign trail in Tasmania as Labor scrambles to retain power with a last-minute blast for both the Liberal opposition and the Greens.
Labor is set to lose some seats to the Liberals, but opinion polls suggest the conservatives will fall short of winning an outright majority, and the Greens are tipped to hold the balance of power, according to The Australian Financial Review.
Premier David Bartlett argued yesterday that Labor was "still in a position to win a majority government''. But his campaign has looked shaky this week after a scare campaign against the Greens over drug policy that appeared to backfire with voters.
Labor yesterday cried foul over a break-in at its party headquarters in Hobart and accused the Liberals and the Greens of being "deceitful and dishonest'' over their policy costings.
Labor now has 14 seats in the state's 25-seat House of Assembly and will lose its majority if it loses just two seats. The Liberals have seven seats and the Greens four.
