Young farmers aim to Finish First this spring

Motivation and inspiration will be the focus when young farmers and dairy representatives from across the state gather in Echuca on Melbourne Cup Day.

The Young Dairy Development Program has teamed up with the VFF's Young Agribusiness Professionals to host the Finishing First event at the Echuca Races.

The VFF's Apprentice of the Year Jason Smith will share his passion for dairy farming with young dairy professionals on the day.

"Dairying offers so much for young people, with endless potential for those who aspire to succeed," Mr Smith said.

"I look forward to sharing my experiences with other young dairy farmers from across the State."

The day is also an opportunity to network with industry leaders, including UDV President Doug Chant and local politicians.

Local dairy farmer Tim Gentle said the future of the industry was in the hands of young leaders such as those involved in YDDP and YAPs.

"It's events like these that encourage young farmers to succeed, by developing networks and establishing valuable partnerships with industry colleagues and industry leaders," Mr Gentle said.

"We are inviting anyone who has links with the dairy industry, not just dairy farmers. Last year we had 100 people including vets, factory workers, consultants, shire representatives and Dookie students."
