LAMB supplies at
Meat and Livestock Australia’s NLRS physical markets in western Victoria went from strength to strength this week, as the Hamilton market yarded 92,406 lambs.
Lamb sales were held on both Monday and Wednesday, the former highest weekly yarding was set during early December 2008.
The Monday sale of just over 35,000 head sold to stronger demand, as the majority of trade (16 kilograms 22kg cwt) and heavy lamb (22kg to 26kg cwt) prices lifted 52 cents a kilogram to 60c/kg cwt.
The large yarding of 57,000 lambs on Wednesday sold to softer demand as expected, with trade lambs slipping 4c/kg to 23c/kg cwt.
Store quality lambs were well supplied at both sales, with restocker and feeder demand from local and interstate regions ensuring prices held firm.
The quality of the stock yarded was mixed, with a fair proportion of the pens store lambs.
The freshest lines of trade and heavy lambs attracted intense demand from processors, as a large gallery of curious spectators looked on.
