Tasmanian weaner sales got away to an awesome start at Powranna, outside Launceston, on Thursday, with June/July-drop Angus steers selling to $745.
Estimated to weigh 350-360kg, the opening three pens in a sale of 2600 eclipsed the $700 a head mark.
The remainder of the market, which featured primarily August to September-drop lines, saw the heavier drafts sold for between $530 and $600 to average 200c/kg (live), while the younger steers made $500-$560 and averaging about 215c/kg.
Heifers also met strong inquiry, especially from the mainland, to realise 180-200c/kg as most made $435 to $540, topping at $600.
