Grown steers to 209c/kg at Warrnambool

29 Jun, 2009 11:34 AM
GROWN steers were the real surprise of the day at the Warrnambool store sale on Friday, making up to 209 cents a kilogram.

Agent Anthony Mahony, of Brian O’Halloran and Company, said it was "the best run of grown steers Warrnambool had seen for some time".

Phil Keane, Saffin Kerr Bowen Wilson, quoted the heavy run of weighed steers 6-8 cents a kilogram stronger than last month.

"We saw grown cattle up to 480 kilograms making 180-190c/kg, which I haven't seen happen in recent history," Mr Keane said.

Alongside feedlots and meat processors, restockers from the Western district and south east South Australia drove prices up on most lines across the yarding of over 2000 head.

"We had an excellent yarding of cattle for this time of year," he said.

"Vendors would be very pleased with what happened today."
