Gunnedah, NSW, weaners to $659

20/05/2008 5:28:00 PM
European-Union accredited cattle were the star of the show at last Friday's impressive Powerhouse weaner sale held in Gunnedah, NSW.

Agents, Davidson Cameron and Company, built up on last year's 3000-head yarding, to sell 5200 well-presented weaners, which included 1800 EU-accredited cattle.

A range of breeds was represented, with European breeds and crosses dominant.

Good prices were recorded across the board with both steers and heifers selling up to 15 to 20c/kg more than was seen in the liveweight prime market.

Greg Maguire, Powerhouse Pastoral Company, Nundle, was the major vendor at the sale, with 1200 EU-accredited Angus, black Simmental and Charolais-cross steers and heifers.

Powerhouse Pastoral Company sold the top pen of the day - the 308kg EU-accredited, Angus-cross steers selling for 214c/kg to Greg Upton, of Upton Pastoral Company, Walcha, NSW, to return $659/head.
