Good competition from southern feedlots added strength to the market for a yarding of 2250 store cattle at Hay, NSW, today, with buyers active from three States.
Prices topped at $700 for a pen of eight Angus steers, aged 18 months, offered by Lamezia, Hay.
Best penned lots of cattle made to $686 for a pen of 25 Angus, Hereford and black baldy steers, aged 13 to 15 months, offered on account of Humewood.
Wakefield also traded near the top of the market, selling a yard of 19 black baldy steers, aged 13 to 15 months, for $675.
The first run of steers generally returned around 180-185 cents a kilogram.
In the 10-12 month old steers, Tom’s Lake, Booligal, made $660 or about 195c/kg with a pen of Angus steers.
Smaller calves, aged seven to 10 months, returned $510 across a pen of 78 Angus for TJ Henwood, Howlong, Carathool, NSW.
Heifers topped at $650 for a pen of black baldy, aged 20 months, from Wakefield, with Wakefield and Tom’s Lake clearing 13-15 month-old heifers for $575 or about 170c.
