ALMOST 550 steers sold to 200 cents a kilogram and averaged 184 cents a kilogram at the Kyneton associated agents annual weaner calf sale.
A yarning of 388 heifers sold up to 175c/kg and averaged 157c/kg.
Rodwell’s Kieran McGrath said the recent hot weather had caused some sale anxst, but the strong buying from Gippsland, Western District and locals created a “very successful sale” for the 1000-head yarding.
“Vendors and purchasers should be very satisfied with the results,” he said.
Mr McGrath quoted the smaller steers up to 200c/kg, and heavier weaner steers from170-185c/kg.
Gisborne local Harry White proved his competence in the saddle was rivaled by his cattle breeding ability, by topping both the steer and heifer market.
Mr White’es pen of 15 Angus steers, weighing an average 409kg, sold to $690 to account Highland, Daylesford.
Kyneton local Mark Daniel snapped up Mr White’s top pen of heifers, paying $596 a head for 20 Angus heifers weighing an average 360kg.
