A VERY good yarding of older steers aged 18-24 months sold to excellent competition at Sale’s monthly store cattle sale last Friday.
Bidding continued in a similar fashion on younger, well-bred steers, according to Greg Birss, Landmark, Sale, with restockers keen to secure numbers.
Unjoined heifers to feedlotters met firm rates and the larger number of cows and calves, off-loaded due to the dry conditions in the area, made just above split value.
South Gippsland fatteners described the yarding as one of the best witnessed at the Sale yards “for a long time”, Mr Birss said, with a good number of bullocks being sold due to dry conditions.
Bullocks hit a top of $1000 for A Goble who sold 39 in forward condition, average $969.
J and P Harrison, sold 14 Hereford-Angus steers to $910 and P and N Garlick sold 53 steers to $870, average $812.
Steers aged 12-15 months sold to $755 for JG Atkinson, with R and S Foster realising $700 for 14 head.
P O’Day returned $600 for 17 Angus heifers aged 14-16 months and VM and E White returned $505 on 16 heifers aged 12 months.
A pen of Hereford cows and calve sold by Strathfieldsaye reached $870.
