Solid result after rain at Euroa

30 Jun, 2009 03:51 PM
MORE rain, a looming shortage of cattle and a rise in feeder rates underpinned prices at Friday’s end-of-year store sale at Euroa.

The 2000 steers made from $320-$810 to average $538 while 1300 heifers made $255-$652 to average $451.

When converted to liveweight equivalent pricing, the 500 weighed steers (down to 250kg and averaging 315kg) sold at an average $622 or 198c. Most weighed steers made 195-210c and sold to 216c/kg.

The few pens of weighed heifers at the top end sold to 199c.

“A solid sale, very dear in patches,” was how one buyer quoted the sale after major southern feeders lifted buy-in rates to 193 and 200c on Friday morning. “They’re buyable if you want them though,” he said.

Recently appointed Euroa Landmark manager Russell Mawson, who took over from Kevin Hill, (retired in February), said “it was as good a quality yarding we’ve had at Euroa for a long time, considering the season.

“While it could have been a tough day at the office, it’s been a tremendous outcome. Major buyers have told us we’ve had a good day.”
